Brief
By Application Only. As we emerge from a global pandemic and resume our digital nomad lifestyles in an evolving new reality, we will explore the need for healing, sacred spaces, and experiences that not only reflect the diversity of faith and cross cultures amongst Pacific Rim (LA x Tokyo) citizens, but can also offset the rise of anxiety, collective loss, suicides, depression and mood disorders. This collaboration studio will explore outcomes such as: [public] + private + intimate spatial experiences, interactive installations, objects, furnishings that encourage reflection, remembrance, contemplation, re-set and have us re-thinking our fragile and current relationship with each other and our natural resources.

Design for Nobu at Malibu
Nobu Malibu is set against the natural beauty of Malibu’s coastline, where golden cliffs meet the Pacific and the horizon stretches endlessly. Surrounded by the rhythm of crashing waves and glowing sunsets, the location captures a calm, almost cinematic atmosphere that feels both luxurious and deeply connected to nature.

How could we make Nobu's take out experience more special?
Why take out?
Nobu offers luxury dining, but its crowded atmosphere can reduce the sense of intimacy, and its takeout experience does not reflect the same value as dining in. Our project redesigns takeout for a private beach picnic for two, using elevated packaging and a curated course menu.

Night Picnic Experiment
We did a Night Picnic experiment together to understand what our users will be going through from sunset to night.
Concept Development
Based on our night picnic experiment we did, we started ideating and testing possible lighting solutions.

Form Development
The consumer is an INTREPID ANCHOR, leading with confidence in uncertain environments. Their strength creates stability, while their courage keeps the team moving forward.

Physical Prototypes
The physical model was built to validate scale, proportions, and the overall usability of the system.
3D printing allowed the form to be tested at full size, while sanding, assembly, and finishing work helped capture the rugged texture and surface character intended for Salewa’s outdoor aesthetic.
